On Sunday, in several publications, including CNN.com and the Guardian, there were similar articles comparing and contrasting main street voters and progressives.
Centrist corporate politicians, those who take big money from special interest groups, would have us believe that the popularity of a progressive candidate, like Bernie Sanders, for example, is fiction. They would have us believe that major donors, party operatives, and senior lawmakers, believe taking money from special interests in exchange for special favors is the cost of doing business in Washington. This worldview is one that the majority of Democratic and Republican powerbrokers hold.
But increasingly, American voters are turning against what they see as the corrupting influence of money in our politics. Sanders believes there is a better way and so do I.
Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, something has got to change because what we are doing now is not working. All we have to do is look at both parties to see how shockingly easy it is to be corrupted by the money and how easy it is for us to be desensitized to peoples suffering.
Since the 2016 election, the rule of law doesn’t seem to mean much anymore and the checks and balances built into our government have all but vanished. Most concerning of all, our Constitutional rights seem to be dissolving at an alarming rate.
The laws that are made in both State and Federal US governments now in no way benefit us, our environment or our future. People aren’t making decisions based on the truth, and fake news preys on our biases. This is true for both Fox News and CNN watchers. We have become immune to uncomfortable facts. The fact is our government is corrupt and right now there are only a few voices saying it doesn’t have to be that way.
As human beings, we are hard-wired to resist change. It’s scary, but what happens next is up to all of us. I’m going to do my part, will you?
For all the reasons listed above, I’ve decided to run for Congress in 2020 and the theme of my campaign will be ‘Follow The Money’!
